Chris Stuart and Backcountry

As you can see by the photo at the left, we've been busy expanding here at Backcountry Music. . .

Janet's been teaching at Early Music Workshops . . . you know, music before the Stanley Brothers. . . here's where we'll be teaching at bluegrass camps this summer:

July 29 - August 3, 2007
Augusta Heritage Center, Elkins, West Virginia, bluegrass week workshops. Janet teaches banjo and Chris teaches bluegrass rhythm guitar

August 12 - 15, 2007
American River Camp, Coloma, California. Janet, Eric, and Chris will be teaching banjo, lead guitar, and rhythm guitar at this camp along the beautiful American River near Sacramento. It's also the site where gold was first discovered in California. We'll be panning daily.

August 20 - 31, 2007
Sorrento Bluegrass Workshop, Sorrento, British Columbia Workshop. Janet will teach intermediate banjo the first week, and Chris rhythm guitar; and the second week we'll teach bluegrass harmony class.

September 7 -9, 2007
American Banjo Camp, Janet teaching banjo in Fort Flagler, WA.

Eric's been busy building a brand new studio in Hesperia. We hope to have photos of the new place in the next newsletter. It's going to be a really great and comfortable world-class studio. We've already started work on the next album too.

The new album by Eric Uglum, Austin Ward and Christian Ward, is doing really well and getting a lot of airplay. You can buy it from our website or from iTunes or from cdbaby.com or other download sites. You can also listen to short samples of each song too.

Janet Beazley 5 South

Sightings from the Mysterious Road:

We had a fantastic time in England at the Sorefingers camp. If you ever want a vacation in the UK and want to have a great time. Below is Janet's Jolly Banjo Class. And to the left are stones that pre-date Stonehenge. They're called the Whispering Knights and Chris's songwriting class wrote a song about them. A great big thanks to John, Moira, Jill, and all the gang for a great time. Check out Sorefingers. And click on the photo below for more Sorefingers photos.

Fun things Please consider buying CDs, Songbooks, caps or t-shirts! And this month's special is a discount on our first album, Saints & Strangers, CDs. Now only $10!

And a special on Saints & Strangers Songbooks, only $15!

Janet Beazley 5 South Backcountry is not just a band name. We're involved with raising awareness of the needs of the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation. Please take some time to visit a National Park and contribute to causes that support the preservation of the American wilderness and historical sites.

Chris's article on Del McCoury that originally appeared in Bluegrass Unlimited magazine is part of a collection of the best Country Music writing for 2007. Check out the Country Music Reader 2007, edited by Randy Rudder. Jon Weisberger also has a great article on Earl Scruggs in it. Look for new articles out in Bluegrass Unlimited in the coming months.

Also Larry Cordle recorded Chris's song "First Train Robbery." It will be the first radio release from his new album, due out in September on Lonesome Day Records.

And Chris wrote the liner notes for a compilation CD of IIIrd Tyme Out's greatest hits which will be released this summer on Rounder Records.

If you have any writing or editing needs, please contact Chris at chris@stuartfreelance.com. And check out his writing website at www.stuartfreelance.com
